Job details
About this role
Role overview
Strengthen the infrastructure, pipelines, and release practices that help engineering teams deliver software safely at scale. This staff-level platform role spans source control and build operations, progressive delivery, connector-team DevOps, developer insights, and engineering tooling. You will turn broad technical direction into practical systems and encourage adoption across teams; the position is remote-friendly and based in the United States.
Responsibilities - Improve large-scale GitLab operations in a cloud Kubernetes environment, including permissions, governance, runners, and pipeline infrastructure. - Design pipeline orchestration and progressive delivery, including automated promotion and rollback patterns. - Support build, release, and deployment pipelines for third-party database connectors and related integrations. - Develop deployment-safety practices for distributed cloud systems, including guidance on rollback versus forward recovery. - Partner with teams on safe database changes and production recovery; build self-service tools that make these practices easier to adopt. - Advance developer tooling, AI-assisted software development systems, developer insights, and FinOps practices; coach engineers and drive adoption.
Requirements - 8+ years in software engineering, DevOps, platform engineering, or SRE, with demonstrated staff-level scope and impact. - Deep experience administering GitLab or a comparable source control and CI platform at scale. - Proven experience designing and operating CI/CD pipelines and orchestration, including progressive delivery with tools such as Argo Rollouts, Kargo, or equivalents. - Strong knowledge of safe deployment, rollback, recovery, and production database change practices. - Ability to work across teams, translate architectural direction into technical plans, and communicate clearly with senior engineers and architects. - Willingness to occasionally meet outside local business hours to collaborate with teams in the United States and Europe.
Nice to have - Experience with AI-assisted engineering tools, test infrastructure, observability, third-party connector ecosystems, or developer productivity metrics. - Familiarity with FinOps, internal developer platforms, ephemeral development environments, async systems, or technical roadmapping and adoption.
