Principal Design Engineer

Role overview

Build and ship AI-supported product experiences by combining design craft with front-end engineering. This senior individual contributor role spans prototyping, technical design decisions, and production implementation. You’ll also strengthen shared design infrastructure and help teams deliver consistent, high-quality experiences across complex customer workflows.

Responsibilities - Create coded prototypes and interaction models to make complex workflows tangible and communicate product direction. - Lead high-impact work from concept through production, translating customer needs into polished experiences. - Guide technical design discussions, make architectural decisions, and coordinate implementation across teams. - Develop scalable design system patterns that improve consistency and help teams build efficiently. - Work with product managers, engineers, and other partners to understand requirements and balance user and business needs. - Advocate for design fidelity and usability throughout development, and mentor colleagues through project guidance and feedback.

Requirements - Hands-on experience with modern front-end development, including HTML/CSS, JavaScript or TypeScript, and React. - Experience evolving design systems and delivering production-ready user experiences. - Understanding of user-centered design and end-to-end customer workflows. - Ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical partners and influence design and engineering decisions. - Experience leading projects, mentoring others, or providing constructive feedback.

Nice to have - Experience building AI or agentic product experiences and using AI tools to support design and development. - Familiarity with AI technologies and tools such as MCP, Claude Code, Codex, or Skills. - A degree in information science, psychology, human-computer interaction, or a related field.
