Senior Software Engineer - E-commerce (PHP)

About this role
Role overview This role is for a senior engineer on a CMS engineering team building and maintaining payment plugins for major e-commerce platforms. The position focuses on plugin architecture, code quality, and cross-platform consistency across six ecosystems, while mentoring intermediate engineers and embedding best practices. It is a permanent contract based in Paris, France, or open to full remote from metropolitan France.
Responsibilities - Improve the architecture of existing plugins and guide the creation of new ones with clean, maintainable structures, including through AI-assisted workflows. - Define patterns and standards that scale across the plugin ecosystem. - Establish and enforce code review standards, PHP patterns, linting, testing tools, and audit test coverage. - Lead code reviews and pair programming sessions to grow intermediate engineers. - Drive refinement sessions and continuous improvement practices within the squad. - Harmonise patterns and conventions across the supported platforms to reduce complexity and speed up delivery.
Requirements - Solid expertise in PHP and backend architecture. - Hands-on experience building or maintaining plugins. - Ability to design systems that scale across multiple platforms. - Track record of mentoring or growing other engineers. - Strong communication and collaboration skills in a remote-friendly team.
Nice to have - Deep expertise in at least one major e-commerce CMS such as Magento, Sylius, or WooCommerce. - Prior informal leadership experience or willingness to step into a leadership role. - Comfort working with AI tools in the development workflow.
