Remote job
PCB Layout and Interconnect Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview A hands-on electrical design role focused on printed circuit board layout and interconnect engineering for a commercial humanoid robot platform. The position influences the next generation of a deployed bipedal robot and involves close collaboration with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing teams to deliver robust, production-ready electronics.
Responsibilities - Execute complex, multi-layer PCB layouts in Altium Designer and produce complete engineering deliverables for release. - Design system cable assemblies, wire harnesses, and interconnect schematics based on mechanical and electrical constraints. - Estimate work effort and contribute to project schedules and milestone planning. - Apply layout and harness solutions that improve emissions mitigation, power dissipation, testing, and DFM/DFA outcomes. - Run PCB layout and harness design release checklists and present designs at cross-functional design reviews. - Collaborate closely with mechanical engineering on board outlines, connector placement, keep-out areas, and 3D harness routing through robotic assemblies. - Partner with PCB fabricators, assembly houses, and cable harness vendors to resolve technical questions and support production.
Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. - 5+ years of PCB layout and cable harness design experience. - Deep expertise in Altium Designer and 3D ECAD/MCAD integration workflows. - Experience with complex layout constraints including high-speed differential signaling, impedance control, and power electronics. - Strong 3D visualization skills for optimizing space-constrained circuitry and harness routing in challenging mechanical and thermal environments. - Solid understanding of IPC standards for PCB fabrication and assembly, plus wire harness assembly (IPC-620). - Experience designing cable harnesses in Altium Harness, flex and rigid-flex circuits, and component footprint and symbol management in Altium. - Comfort working in a fast-evolving environment with tight schedules and a strong collaborative orientation. - Authorization to work in the United States.
Nice to have - Altium Multi-board design and system-level connectivity experience. - Altium CoDesigner proficiency for ECAD/MCAD synchronization. - HyperLynx experience for signal integrity or power integrity analysis. - Familiarity with PTC Creo for mechanical integration and clearance checks. - Adjacent engineering experience such as schematic entry, firmware, mechanical, or test work. - Project management tooling experience, especially Jira.
Benefits and work setup - Onsite in the Fremont office, with potential to consider Salem, OR or Pittsburgh, PA locations; expect roughly one week of travel per quarter to Salem or Fremont, plus extended stays during critical project phases. - Anticipated salary range of $137,000–$179,000 USD, plus 401(k) with 6% company match, equity, 100% company-paid medical, dental, vision, and short/long-term disability, EAP, unlimited PTO for exempt staff and 12 company holidays, parental leave, professional development, tuition reimbursement, relocation assistance, and annual discretionary bonus.
