Role overview
Guide the design and operation of continuous integration systems that help engineering teams build, test, and release software reliably. This staff-level role combines hands-on systems work with technical direction, developer enablement, and mentorship across a broad engineering organization.
Responsibilities
- Own the reliability and scalability of build and CI pipelines that serve multiple services and platforms. - Improve build speed, test coverage, and reporting so developers receive useful feedback quickly. - Establish monitoring, alerting, and incident response practices for CI infrastructure. - Work with engineering teams to improve integrations and deployment workflows, and identify opportunities for better tooling and automation. - Help set the direction for CI and developer productivity infrastructure in partnership with engineering leadership. - Mentor CI engineers and encourage ownership, collaboration, and sound technical practices.
Requirements
- Experience leading engineering initiatives in continuous integration, build systems, or developer productivity. - Strong familiarity with modern build and artifact tools, such as GitHub, Buildkite, or Artifactory. - Working knowledge of cloud environments, including AWS or Kubernetes, and infrastructure as code. - Solid programming experience in Python, Kotlin, Java, or a comparable language, with the ability to guide technical decisions. - Experience managing build systems and frameworks for large monorepositories. - A related bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience. - Ability to solve complex systems problems while balancing near-term improvements with longer-term direction.
Nice to have
Experience contributing to open source or working on software at large scale is a plus. Interest in learning how AI tools and emerging technologies can improve engineering productivity is also valued.
