Job details
About this role
Role overview Join a backend engineering team that builds the APIs partners and merchants rely on to plug into a modern buy-now-pay-later platform. The role centers on designing and shipping reliable backend services at scale, with downstream impact on high-traffic commerce integrations. It is a remote, senior-level individual contributor position open to candidates residing in specified Canadian provinces.
Responsibilities - Design, build, and maintain backend services that power partner and merchant integrations, including APIs used by large e-commerce and payments platforms. - Collaborate with engineers, product partners, and other stakeholders to align on scope, surface trade-offs, and maintain shared visibility into risks. - Balance delivery speed with engineering quality, protecting production systems from downtime while meeting business goals. - Take loosely defined problems from concept through to clean, well-tested, extensible code that interacts with multiple services. - Navigate a large existing codebase, debug peer-written code, and give constructive feedback through code reviews. - Contribute to team culture through mentorship, learning, and growth-oriented practices.
Requirements - Prior professional or internship experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale. - Proficiency in at least one of Python or Kotlin. - Working knowledge of distributed-systems building blocks and platforms such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes. - Demonstrated ability to ship clear, well-tested, extensible code that spans multiple software components. - Comfort navigating large codebases, debugging others' code, and participating in code review. - Strong written and verbal communication skills suitable for collaborating across a global engineering organization.
Nice to have - Exposure to high-volume commerce, payments, or financial-services APIs. - Experience operating in a remote-first engineering organization.
Benefits and work setup - Remote-first role; candidates must reside in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan. - Base pay range: approximately CAD 153,000 to CAD 213,000 per year, with eligibility for equity, performance-based awards, and country-specific benefits such as fully subsidized medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents, flexible spending wallets, paid time off, and an employee stock purchase plan.
