Role overview
A federal-sector technology organization is hiring a senior SAP ABAP Developer with deep expertise in SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll. The role centers on leading complex analysis, design, coding, and testing for payroll-focused ABAP initiatives, while mentoring junior engineers and shaping technical direction. Work supports mission-critical public-sector clients, requiring eligibility for a government clearance.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and enhance custom ABAP RICEFW objects (reports, interfaces, conversions, enhancements, forms) that underpin SAP Payroll processes - Translate functional customer requirements into detailed technical and enterprise application design specifications - Collaborate with HCM/Payroll functional consultants and client teams to evaluate alternatives and recommend technical approaches - Author programming specifications, technical design documents, process diagrams, and coding flowcharts for system modifications and installations - Debug, performance-tune, and troubleshoot custom ABAP code as well as standard SAP payroll objects - Support work planning, forecasting, staffing, and budgeting activities, including mentoring and training junior developers
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on SAP ABAP development experience - Strong proficiency in OOP ABAP, BAPIs/RFCs, IDocs, user exits and the enhancement framework, Smart Forms/SAPscript, and custom report/interface development - Demonstrated experience building and supporting custom objects within an SAP Payroll landscape - U.S. citizenship (no dual citizenship) and eligibility to obtain a government clearance
Nice to have
- Functional background in SAP HCM Payroll, covering schemas, PCRs, and payroll driver customization - Prior exposure to SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll

- Base pay range of $106,300–$206,200 USD, applicable in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and the District of Columbia - Comprehensive benefits package; ongoing applications accepted with no fixed deadline
