Staff Backend Engineer, Aave App Vaults

Role overview A consumer-focused savings product built on decentralized finance protocols is looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to lead the backend systems behind its mobile and web experiences. The role centers on the layer between blockchain primitives and end-user features, with high ownership over ambiguous product goals and a strong emphasis on correctness, security, and operability for systems handling real financial value.

Responsibilities - Design and operate backend services for account and wallet management, transaction orchestration, funding and withdrawal flows, and notifications - Build and maintain vault management capabilities, including monitoring, rebalancing, and partner vault integrations - Develop high-reliability blockchain indexing pipelines that surface balances and yield data to client applications - Ship performant, well-documented APIs consumed by mobile and web clients - Collaborate with quantitative engineers on allocation and rebalancing logic, and with smart contract engineers on onchain integration points - Own production reliability for services that handle customer transactions, sensitive account flows, and user funds across onchain and offchain infrastructure

Requirements - Significant experience as a senior or staff backend engineer building production systems at scale - Strong proficiency in backend languages such as Rust, Go, TypeScript, or comparable languages used for high-throughput services - Deep understanding of stateful key management, wallet infrastructure, and the full lifecycle of onchain transactions - Sound judgment around threat modeling, sensitive data handling, permissions, and operational risks in financial systems - Track record of turning loosely defined product goals into reliable, observable production services - Comfort owning a broad technical area end-to-end and working across teams

Nice to have - Experience reading smart contracts and integrating with EVM-compatible networks, smart accounts, account abstraction, bridges, vaults, or DeFi protocols - Background designing constraint, optimization, solver, or allocation systems - Experience building consumer fintech, savings, wallet, exchange, or payments products at meaningful scale - Familiarity with cross-chain indexing, large-scale data ingestion, Kafka, ClickHouse, or similar streaming and analytics infrastructure
