Tech Lead

Role overview Lead the technical direction of client product engagements while remaining hands-on in the code. You’ll turn discovery conversations into an architecture and delivery plan, establish patterns the team can build on, and keep technical decisions clear to both engineers and clients. The role also includes coaching a team of four to eight engineers and planning for a clean product handover.

Responsibilities - Translate discovery into architecture, delivery plans, and visible risk assessments. - Write foundational code and review the work built on those patterns. - Make and explain build-versus-buy decisions to clients. - Track delivery against the plan and raise emerging delays or risks early. - Lead technical conversations, including setting boundaries and explaining trade-offs. - Coach engineers through pairing and timely feedback, and flag growth or support needs to the engineering manager. - Plan documentation, access, runbooks, and walkthroughs so client teams can take over the product.

Requirements - At least six years of software development experience, including technical leadership of a product from its early build through handover. - Broad experience across TypeScript, Node.js, PostgreSQL, React or Next.js, and cloud platforms. - Ability to document architecture, decisions, and trade-offs before implementation makes them costly to change. - Experience assessing and integrating legacy APIs and data exchanges, with a practical plan for handling them. - Confidence communicating technical choices and delivery risks to clients and engineers. - A calm, adaptable leadership style, with a focus on finishing and handing over well.

Nice to have - Agency or consultancy experience, experience making inherited codebases safer to change, or work across multiple product domains.
