About this role
Role overview
Build the data foundations that support analytics and AI features, starting with inconsistent source systems and unclear business definitions. You will develop ingestion and transformation pipelines, model data for reporting and retrieval, and establish quality controls so downstream teams can rely on what they use.
Responsibilities
- Ingest data from client systems, including sources with limited or no API access. - Define and document business meaning for fields and datasets used in analytics and retrieval. - Build and maintain tested transformation models and production pipelines. - Add data quality checks and alerts for freshness, volume, schema changes, and other failure modes. - Supply current, clean data for retrieval and evaluation workflows in collaboration with AI and backend engineers. - Monitor pipeline runtime and cost, and plan for backfills, reruns, and schema changes.
Requirements
- At least three years building and operating production data pipelines that people depend on. - Strong SQL and Python skills, with Python code that is typed, tested, and maintainable. - Experience with a warehouse such as BigQuery, Snowflake, Postgres, DuckDB, or ClickHouse, including its cost considerations. - Experience with dbt or an equivalent tool for tested and documented data models. - Familiarity with orchestration tools such as Airflow or Dagster, and streaming or managed queues where appropriate. - Understanding of data quality, governance, personal data access and retention, lineage, and reliable backfills.
Nice to have
- Kafka, Kinesis, or change data capture experience. - Vector stores and embedding pipelines for retrieval. - Experience using dbt or another transformation tool at significant scale.
Benefits and work setup
- Remote work across the MENA region, with working hours coordinated around team overlap. - Small teams, direct client contact, and delivery cycles that typically run in weeks. - Budget for equipment and tools, plus a learning budget with time to use it. - Paid time off and no timesheet-based tracking.
