Role overview
This director-level role sits at the intersection of people leadership and technical architecture for large Azure-based data and platform modernization programs. The position leads multiple teams and managers while serving as an organization-wide technical authority, connecting business goals to cloud roadmaps and guiding enterprise-scale design decisions. It is suited for a senior leader who enjoys shaping engineering culture, mentoring architects, and turning successful delivery patterns into reusable assets.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop multiple delivery groups, including coaching, performance reviews, staffing, and growth planning for individual contributors and managers. - Set technical direction across practices and large Azure programs spanning applications, platforms, and data, ensuring alignment with security, scalability, reliability, performance, and cost goals. - Define modernization blueprints, reference architectures, and design standards that simplify delivery and operations over time. - Guide cross-team discovery, resolve high-impact architectural trade-offs, and connect solutions into cohesive end-to-end architectures with clear ownership boundaries. - Promote modern engineering practices, automation, and responsible use of AI-assisted tooling, turning innovation into stable, repeatable delivery patterns. - Mentor senior and delivery architects, contribute to enablement programs, and share lessons across accounts to reinforce credibility with clients and partners.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field preferred. - 12+ years delivering solutions in areas such as application development, cloud platform engineering, DevOps, or data and analytics, with significant enterprise-scale work. - 7+ years in solution architecture and leading development or engineering teams across multi-team or multi-workstream programs. - 10+ years in data platforms, data engineering, or consulting. - Deep architectural expertise with Databricks, including Spark optimization, Delta Lake, and workload design. - Strong understanding of Azure-native data services and cloud architecture, with proven experience architecting Microsoft-based solutions and leading large Azure modernization or transformation programs.
Nice to have
- Experience across multiple cloud vendors and complementary platforms such as Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, and Power BI. - Experience creating reusable data platform offerings. - Relevant certifications, for example Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Databricks Champion, or Databricks Professional level.
