Role overview
This is a principal-level, hands-on technical leadership role on an AI and Platform team supporting legal technology products. The position sets technical direction across multiple services and teams, defining the AI platform patterns other engineers build on, including agent orchestration, tooling, governance hooks, and evaluation surfaces, while continuing to write production code daily.
Responsibilities
- Set technical direction across multiple services and teams with broad autonomy, including influencing staffing and roadmap priorities - Define AI platform patterns covering agent orchestration, tooling, governance hooks, and evaluation surfaces - Own reliability, automated testing, CI/CD, and operational standards spanning multiple teams - Act as a technical advisor to teams and embed within teams to deliver complex, high-value functionality - Design and build production systems in Python across the AI stack - Define patterns and mentor engineers, raising the technical bar across the organization
Requirements
- Principal-level hands-on experience as a technical leader who still writes production code, with deep expertise across the modern Python AI stack - Python and backend service development for production APIs and services - Cloud platform engineering with cloud-native, event-driven systems, preferably on AWS - GenAI and LLM application engineering, including RAG, embeddings, prompting, and guardrails on managed model platforms - Agent tooling and integration protocols such as MCP, including agent orchestration framework design - Data persistence across relational, key-value, document, and warehouse stores, with async access and schema migration - Application security and identity, including authentication, authorization, secrets management, and policy enforcement in multi-tenant contexts - Automated testing across unit, integration, and end-to-end layers, plus modern developer tooling such as linting, typing, formatting, and reproducible builds - Comfort with Infrastructure as Code, containerization, orchestration, CI/CD, and observability for LLM and backend systems - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
